Watching a movie every other day, ELD/English teacher Ms. Hurtado-Lopez loves movies, whether it’s going to watch one at a theater or streaming one at home. Ms. Hurtado-Lopez’s love of movies started when she was growing up, when her parents would always take her to the movie theater as their Sunday activity, and continued as a teen, when she would stay up later than she should have to explore different genres of movies. Her favorites are “Almost Famous” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and she has recently been into French films.
Besides movies, Ms. Hurtado-Lopez also loves hearing stories through reading. Her favorite book is the murder mystery novel The Secret History by Donna Tartt. She says, “I really just love storytelling. When it’s not in books I think watching movies is a really good way to see the different types of storytelling.”
Ms. Hurtado-Lopez has always lived in the Bay Area, and plans to continue staying in the Bay Area because she loves the diversity of the people and food, in addition to having family close by.
Even though this is year is Ms. Hurtado-Lopez’s first year of full time teaching, she student-taught at Galileo last year with Ms. Donahue and Ms. Moffett through her SF State University Program. This year she is teaching ELD 11th and 12th grade English, and 9th grade English. She plans to get her Masters Degree in literature in 5 to 7 years while she is teaching, as well as a PHD later in life.
