The Galileo class of 2023 is embarking on a new journey as many of them are spending their days working on college applications. With college deadlines rapidly approaching, we at the Galileo press decided to ask seniors how their college applications are going, what schools they are applying to, and what advice they have for underclassmen who will be in their same position next year.
“I’m trying to apply to some Art schools but besides that mainly UC’s.
I’m personally struggling with getting my PIQ’s edited.
The biggest thing to focus on is the essays, get people to read them, just start writing, word vomit and work your way from there. My biggest piece of advice is to get on top of it, actually use the resources that are being handed to you. Also, Know your dates even if you don’t have any ideas where you wanna go, Look at everything so it’s at the back of your brain, have a general idea, you don’t have to have it all figured out.” -Ana Sophia
“I applied to four UC’s and some CSU’s.
I actually turned in my applications yesterday.
My advice would be to take advantage of anything you have around you, check in with Kristen and check in with your deadline and get those extra curriculars in if you need to, also start really early especially if you’re trying to get into a UC.” -Selena N
“I applied to the majority of the UC’s just trying to see where I can get in.
My college applications are going okay. I have them all written down, but I have to do a lot of editing and have Kristin look over it and just have people read it.
My advice is to definitely start in the summer, many people told me that and I thought I would have time but now time is ticking and the pressure is on.”

“I’m mainly applying to schools in New York but here I applied to UCLA , UC San Diego and for a private school I did Cornell.
I finished my PIQ’s and i’m doing my other essays but besides that it’s going pretty well.
My advice is that if you are gonna apply, apply early because the process is super long and if you do it early you get less stress during school.” -Farid S
“I’m applying to University of Oregon, Colorado Boulder, Ca Poly, UC Davis, and a few others I can’t remember.
My college applications are going alright. I haven’t completed any specifically but I’m doing a couple at the moment, I’m not really worried about it, I still have time.
My advice would be to get it done early, I go to this college thing in the computer lab on Wednesdays and that helps a lot, other than that just make sure to not procrastinate.” – John
“I really wanna go to Stanford and USC but for UC’s i wanna apply to Davis and Berkely, for private schools i’m also thinking about WoodBerry and PepperDine.
I’m almost done with my UC applications, I did a lot of my PIQ’s in the summer.
My advice would be to definitely start early; a lot of people tell you to start early but we take that for granted. Even Though i started in the summer I’m still struggling,I think starting freshman year is really good. Maybe not starting the essays but start jotting down some ideas and what your leadership roles are”

“ I’m applying to Boston University, Pace University, and then some abroad. I’m not sure yet but one I do know is Kyoto university in Japan.
My applications are going a little bit slow, they’re all in different times since I’m going abroad, so I’m working on the one in Japan right now and I’ll be working for the ones in New York later, so it’s a slow process but kinda getting through it. It’s a little bit stressful.
My advice is to start early, especially on your personal essays. I think if you start noting down some ideas very early on you wont get stuck with finding ideas to write about, I think starting with your essays is the most important thing.” – Pokha L
“I am applying to San Diego State, Cal Poly, ICU, and Santa Barbara.
I kinda just did my applications during lunch today, I did the state one and I didn’t like it. There’s a lot of stuff that I had to do but I know I have to do more.
My advice would definitely be to start early, start your list and take time to actually think about the colleges you wanna go to, I wouldn’t say think of your major right away because I’m still figuring that out.” -Daniela C
