Galileo Community’s Alternate School Choices

Whether Galileo was the first choice for students and teachers or not, all of these familiar faces ended up as part of it’s community. However,  many other schools in the district were also attractive to students and teachers alike. The Galileo Press asked the Galileo community, “What other high schools did you apply to or interview at before you settled at this school?”

“I interviewed at SOTA, and I interviewed at James Lick. James Lick is a middle school, and primarily my teaching experience was middle school. And so they already had candidates that they wanted so it was all good.”

– Dr. Rodgers, Principal

“The schools that I observed, the district brought us there because they had larger [Multilingual Learner] populations were Balboa, we looked at McAteer, and Galileo. Out of those three, I knew people at Galileo, and the vibe was way nicer than the other schools.”

– Mr. Barrios, Physics Teacher

“I would say Lowell because they have better facilities, for example for the tennis courts, they have 10 courts.”

– Khiem P., Senior

“Honestly I didn’t want to choose any other school besides Galileo because I feel like all my family went to Gal.The Health Academy is also something I’m interested in, like the opportunities they give to students who are interested in healthcare and stuff is really good.”

– Stephanie S., Senior

“I considered Washington because it’s relatively close to my house and a lot of my friends from middle school were going there.”
– Hunter T., Junior

“Well, my first choice was Lowell, because I wanted more rigorous school work, and a big school with a lot of spirit.”

– Hannah C., Junior

“I chose Washington because it’s similar to Gal education wise, I also liked the academic departments such as the auto workshop and other workshops. “

– Max L., Sophomore

“One school I was considering other than Gal was Lincoln because the school seems pretty big, and I went there to visit one time and the teachers were pretty nice.”

– Rebecca R., Sophomore

“Lincoln, because I live very close to there. Honestly, I just wanted to go to a school that had a basketball team.”

– Jerome S., Freshman

I chose Balboa because it’s close to my house and I like their classes. For example they  have a really nice computer lab and it’s close to city college.”

– Amber L., Freshman
