A dominant display from the Galileo Baseball team against Leadership Academy in their second and third games brought hope to the Galileo team for how the remainder of the season might go. The Lions won handedly, 15-2. in the first game on April 5th, which included a no-hitter by junior Max H, and 19-0 in the second game on April 6th.

In the first game, the Lions traveled to Balboa Park on April 5th to meet the Hawks at their home field. Junior pitcher Max H. was dominant on the field as he pitched a no-hitter, which included 11 strikeouts. Although the Hawks managed to score 2 runs, Max breezed through the Hawks lineup.

“I was impressed with how everyone played that game and am really happy I was able to secure the no-hitter even though they managed to score two runs,” said Max after his stunning display.

While Max caged the Hawks, the Lions roared on offense. The first inning started off with one run, brought in by Misha B. after a walk and stealing to third. The second inning saw the Lions pick up speed, as they secured 4 runs courtesy of senior Giuseppe P.’s triple and sophomore Iker G’s double.

The Lions did further damage in the third and fourth innings, as freshman Julian C., and senior captain Caiden R., each brought in a run. In the fifth, the Lions secured the win as they scored 8 runs, with the help of a double from senior Mariano S. and Caiden, and a lot of walked batters, capping off the Lions 15 runs.

Coming off of a confident victory, the next day, Galileo would host Leadership for their last game in the series, with similar results. The game started out with a bang as Caiden R. hit a home run in the bottom of the first, followed by a triple from Max H. who was brought in from an RBI single from Giuseppe, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead going into the second. Their streak of runs would continue as the Lions scored 12 more, including another home run, this time from Braden Chan.

With the game already in their hands and no response from the Hawks, the Lions closed out the game in the third inning with another home run from Misha Bruno, bringing home 2 other batters; Amar L. and Miles E. to make the final mercy rule score 19-0, a shutout for pitcher and freshman, Julian Cook.

“I’m surprised we were able to top our last performance scorewise,” said Julian. “I was hoping to get the no-hitter but I still am happy with how we all did and that we didn’t let them get any runs.”

After the games, senior captain Caiden Ridley spoke on their performance and what they expected for the future. “We looked really good in those two games against [Leadership], and it gives me hope how we might play in the following weeks and looking on to getting play off qualification.”
