Hosting the 16th Chinese karaoke contest at Galileo on Sunday, April 23rd, the “Chinese Culture Club” is involved in a wide range of activities but also provides a welcoming space where members can not only learn about Chinese culture.
The club is located in room 454, where students can go check it out and their meetings at lunch every Friday. During the meetings, members plan events, play games about Chinese culture to win prizes, and engage in lively discussions about Chinese culture.
The club also partakes in different activities a few times a month, including volunteering – both inside and outside of school, selling food at food fests, and helping newcomer students with their homework or translations,
“This club is a very warm family, everyone got along well, officers are very united in contributing to the club, and members are also very actively participating in activities,” said president of the club, senior YongHua Zhu.
The aim of this club is not just to learn about Chinese culture, it’s also a place for students to relax, gather together as students, have a place to make friends and in particular, help Chinese students find more of a sense of belonging, to help them be closer to the whole Galileo community.
To join this 83 member community, students simply need to sign up through club day, or send an email to yozhu3@s.sfusd.edu, including your name and grade. For some students, an easier way to join this is by Wechat(app), or check out their Instagram account: galileoccc.
For those interested in the karaoke contest, entry time for those participating in the contest is 3:30pm and the event will start at 4:00 pms. Students interested in watching the contest will have to pay a 10 dollar ticket fee, which can be bought at the ASB store.
“This club is a place where I feel comfortable, like I have found my own place of belonging,” said a member of the club, senior XiaoLin Li. Freshman YaWen Wu added, “This club is great, I like to make friends in this club, work at senior nursing homes to teach the elderly to do handwork, and at last I suggest that the club should increase activities,”
