The Brawl Stars Club

What started off as a joke between a few friends, the “Brawl Stars” Club has now become one of the more popular clubs at the school, with the possibility of competing against other schools in the near future.

Brawl Stars is a fast-paced 3v3 multiplayer game released on December 12, 2018, by Supercell, the company behind hits like Clash Royale and Clash of Clans. In the game, players choose from various unique characters, called Brawlers, each with different abilities. They compete in different game modes, from classic team battles to survival-style showdowns. With its quick matches, strategic gameplay, and regular updates, Brawl Stars has become a popular choice for mobile gamers worldwide.

Sophomore Jerard W. and his friend, fellow sophomore Cole W., started the club as a place for people to play “Brawl Stars” in math teacher Ms. Su’s classroom during lunch for fun. However, as more students showed interest, sophomore Jerard turned the club into a reality at the end of the winter semester.

Now, the club meets every Tuesday in Room 353, bringing together 10 to 25 players for a fun and competitive space where mobile gamers can connect, improve, and compete.

Jerard handles events and funding, and Cole is the match coordinator, who organizes tournaments. Together, they’ve built a space where students can improve, compete, and just have fun.

They usually host tournaments in our club. The tournaments are sometimes solo, duo, and even trio. Before tournaments, we usually ban some Brawlers. Cole, most of the time, decides what we do and what game mode to pick.

The club welcomes all skill levels. Some players have less than 1,000 trophies (character points), while their top player, Haoyu W, a sophomore, has over 90,000. No matter the skill gap, everyone gets involved. More experienced players help newer players, and the club runs tournaments and giveaways to keep things exciting.

“What makes this club special isn’t just the game, it’s the energy. The first tournament even ended in a crazy 1v1, where both players got knocked out at the same time,” said Jerard.

So far, the club has played just for fun, but that could change soon. Lowell High School’s Brawl Stars Club reached out about a possible tournament, which Galileo’s players are excited about.

What’s next? “I think this club could get big,” Jerard said. And with interest growing, it just might.
