Lions Trying To Find Their Rhythm

By Jenny Chen, staff writer

With the Galileo Girl’s volleyball team missing one of their most important players, senior defensive specialist, Frisca M., due to illness, the Lions were still able to split the 2 games they played the week of September 27-30. Although they lost the match on Tuesday against Lowell in 4 sets (25-12, 25-5, 21-25, and 25-7), the team bounced back for a victory against Mission on Friday in 3 sets. The win against Mission was only the 2nd win of the season for the Lions, as they currently stand in 7th place (2-6) in their division.

In the match against Lowell, the Lions started off strong but ended poorly. Head coach Mark Huynh said, “We started well and then got nervous, but glad we beat their second team to win the third set.” Senior Libero Kaylee Ong added, “We won the third set but ultimately lost the game because of errors.”

Bouncing back from the match against Lowell, the Lions made quick work of Mission, winning 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-9). While the team had just an “okay” start to the game, giving the other team some points due to errors, the team was able to clean it up as the game continued, allowing them to run away with the game. Manager Matthew L. said, “The Mission game ended closer than I thought. They didn’t have our main defensive specialist which is probably why.”

Coach Mark Huynh says, “We did really well considering the environment was loud and the referee was helping Mission, but we were able to focus and overcome that and beat them in three.”

Junior outside hitter Isabella Lei says “Everybody did well working together and the crowd was very cheerful for their own teams.”
