The Galileo Girl’s varsity basketball team won their second non-league game, soundly beating Oceana High School on December 9th, 54-34. The Lions went into the second non-league game with high hopes of another victory due to their over Gateway High School on November 29th. With a group of new players, the team exudes confidence as the talent is apparent throughout the team.
Although the final score was a blowout, the game was still close into the second quarter with a score, 13-11, perhaps because the team felt a lot of pressure being that it was their first home game. However, according to soph. point guard Betsy Duong, the team started pulling away when they did a better job at communicating, scoring points, as the game went along, although she also noted that the defense could’ve been better.
Head coach, Matt Allen said, “The game went really well and because it was a triple header at home on a Friday night, it filled the atmosphere with excitement.” It was a special win accomplished with six people on the court. He also implied “There is a lot is trust between the players which played an important part in tonight’s game.”
Coach Allen is looking forward to the rest of the season as the team has a chance to continue to put together more wins, and make a playoff appearance. However he said that will only happen, if everyone comes to practice everyday and continues to get better.
