The 16th Chinese Karaoke Contest was organized by the Chinese Culture Club on April 23rd at the Galileo Auditorium, featuring 8 high school student performers from different high schools across the SFUSD who showcased their singing skills by performing their favorite songs in front of a panel of judges.
The results of the competition were announced, with Doris SiTu, a sophomore student from Galileo high school winning first place, Melody, a sophomore student from Burton high school being second, and Minghui, a senior student from George Washington high school being third. Moreover, YiMing Lin, a senior student from Galileo high school won the Popularity Award for his performance.
Many people had a great time at the contest. Senior Yonghua Zhu, president of the Chinese Culture Club, said, “I really enjoyed hosting it and seeing people with passion to sing performing on the stage,” while XiaoLin Li, a senior from Galileo, and one of the contestants said, “I enjoyed this contest a lot. I love how we’re able to listen to all those fantastic voices from the other contestants, it’s just a pity that I didn’t do well and forget a few lines, overall it’s OK.”
Not everyone was happy with their experience at the contest though. JunHao Li, a senior student from Galileo high school and one of the contestants, said, “I like this Karaoke contest, but it just wasn’t organized enough, and the experience of the contestants is kinda poor, meaning that the rehearsal stays for four hours and only sings twice or three times.”
