Haunted House haunts HOCO

Hosting their first ever haunted house collaboration, the Haunted House committee, with the help of Futurama, created a spooky event to compliment the homecoming dance, on October 28th, where students entered the house before getting on the dance floor.

The inspiration behind the haunted house came from 9th grader, Navi J., who wanted to do something special and exciting to celebrate Halloween . Mr. Delgado decided to help bring  Navi’s idea to life, sponsoring the Haunted House committee and also asking Futrama to help make the haunted house a reality..

Looking back at the experience, Mr. Delgado felt like the haunted house was overall a great success. He said,  “The haunted house went a lot better than I would have expected. To be honest I’m shocked at how well it went. There were so many small details that got taken care of within the last week and the collaboration was a beautiful thing. We got so much help from fellow teachers and fellow students that made the experience really really positive for our Galileo community.”

It took a lot of work from numerous people as the House consisted of many acts and scenes; including being chased down the halls, a ghost interacting with the guests, a butcher offering bloody bandaids (strawberry jam with wafer cookies), eyeballs (deviled eggs), and a scene where studenst were chased up and down the stairs.

Unfortunately not everything went completely smoothly. A few examples being, some of the acts had to be changed, which included not being able to use a fog machine because it made the fire alarm go off. And another issue was the grouping, as it started off as groups of 5, but the ASB advised to add more to each group as it was slowing down the line to homecoming.

However, these issues didn’t really have any negative effects on the students who went through the Haunted house, as many people had a really positive experience. “I think the haunted house was really fun because it was something new that was at the school. I also think it was fun because I went with friends which made the experience even better,” says junior Kaitlyn L. While junior Aserlloyd S. added, “The haunted house had a really good vibe, like the lighting, the setup, decorations, were good and emulated a real haunted house.”

While this year’s haunted house was a great success, next year’s haunted house is already being thought about and planned out. Futurama coordinator Jamon Tyrus said, “I think there was a lot of things that went well and a lot of things to improve. i enjoyed collaborating with The Haunted House club, some things couldve gone better with decorating, but next time next year we’ll be better and bigger.”
