Homecoming success

After 2 long years Galileo brought its homecoming dance back in style, holding “Saturday Night Fever” at the Van Ness gym on October 1st. Although Galileo has struggled recently to hold successful dances, by all accounts, from the ticket sales to the atmosphere at the dance, everyone involved considered homecoming a huge success.

About 400 tickets for the homecoming dance were sold, making it the most successful homecoming dance in terms of ticket sales in a number of years. The ASB thought that they would only sell about 300 tickets, but the ticket sales exceeded their expectations.

“I felt that tickets were very good, although it was a bit unorganized on our part because we forgot to collect numbers because we were counting ticket songs for song yell, but overall the ticket sales were really good and we made a ton of profit from it,” said Jacob L. Asb officer/pres

With the theme of the homecoming dance being disco, many people were looking forward to the dance, especially a number of underclassmen, who had never experienced a dance before. “There were a lot of people there, but I didn’t expect many people to be dancing. I didn’t expect people to be so enthusiastic,” said junior Isabel B. Senior Dana B. added, “This was my first homecoming, and I expected it to be fun. The vibes were definitely there.”

Amenities at the dance included a photo booth, where people could take pictures with their friends, and a food stand filled with mini sandwiches, chips, sweets, and beverages.

Isabel said, “I like the photo booths and the good music that was on. It was fun how everyone was dancing in the middle. The DJ was really good. The food was good; the cookies, sandwiches and brownies.”

To kick off the dance the K-pop dance group gave a special performance, dancing to “Shut Down” by Blackpink and “Hot” by Seventeen, which got people to dance along and had the crowd cheering them on. While the performance was planned, the group only had one week to practice, which was stressful, but they were able to pull it off.

Not everything about the dance was given positive reviews though. Some complained about having the dance in such a small venue & the fact that it was hot. Senior Samuel W., said “I disliked how it was in the gym and there was no ventilation. It was humid and moist, and I think it could’ve been done in a different location. There was no water, not enough for everyone.”
