Flag Football Ready for Lowell Rematch

By Ethen Chan

Finishing the regular season with a record of 5-2, the flag football team heartbreakingly came in 3rd place after a narrow defeat to Lowell (7-6) on Friday, April 8th.

Before Friday, both Galileo and Lowell came into the game sporting a record of 5-1, tied for 2nd place. The Lions held the lead for most of the game, when in the 2nd quarter wide receiver Cali J. ran a trick play 15 yards for a touchdown. The Lions went for the 2-point conversion, but couldn’t capitalize on it. This didn’t seem like a big deal because at the same time, the Lions defense locked down Lowell most of the game and held them scoreless.

Unfortunately, on Lowell’s last possession of the game, they broke through the Lion defense, and scored a touchdown with only a minute left in the game. The Cardinals ran in their 1 point attempt to take the lead & win the game. Sophomore, Daniela C. says, “We gave it our all, but we were tired, and I think we kind of started to lose it towards the end.”

While the Lowell game was difficult to swallow for the Lions, they can take confidence in the game just a week ago on April 6th when they beat Balboa, 20-0.  The team jumped out to a lead when sophomore Daniela C., was able to get a pick 6 putting the first score on the board. This was the third of 5 interceptions for the Lions that day.

With the regular season now over, the Galileo flag team now prepares to go against Lowell again on Wednesday, April 13th in the playoffs. Junior, Katelyn A. says. “For the playoffs, we are all putting in the work and trying our best. We had our ups and down, but we are pulling through and working it out.”
