By L. Zheng, E. Dujardin, and T. Lee, staff writers

With school now, two grading periods in, many players and coaches in the Galileo sports community are starting to get used to distance learning, though that doesn’t mean they don’t miss having sports. The Galileo press, wanted to ask athletes & coaches – “What do you miss most about sports?”

“Something I miss about playing sports is that I miss being sore every day because when I’m sore it shows that I put in the effort.”

Tyler Lee, Junior, Boys Basketball and Volleyball

“As a student-athlete, the past several months have been hard with the lack of sports. I miss our pre-practice rituals – from helping set up the equipment to leading my team through warm-ups. Additionally, I miss being part of a team, and that sense of belonging and support I got whenever we were together.”

Lina Deng, Junior, Badminton, and Track

“I miss my teammates and being able to run plays over and over again”

Christine Zhu, Senior, Girls Volleyball, and Flag Football

“What I miss the most about playing sports has to be bonding with all the plates and constantly hitting people.”

Joseph Ale, Senior, Varsity Football

“I miss being able to see my teammates and bonding with them.”

Jacob Li, Junior, Boys Volleyball

“What I miss most about sports is my teammates, laughing with them and just having fun. I also miss being able to get exercise in a way that is fun for me. As well as having somewhere to forget about all the school stress and just have fun.”

-Cali Lipscomb, Sophomore, Flag Football and Basketball

“What I miss the most about coaching was getting to know new students and seeing their potential. Even having a great time getting to know them as well!”

Adrian Poot, Football and Flag Football Coach

“What I miss most about not having sports due to covid 19 is that I don’t get to see these young basketball players improve throughout the season but most importantly improve as a whole individual. I miss the exciting moments where each of them makes their first basket of their high school career, where they jump up and down to support their teammates, nervous before every game and lastly learning from their mistakes.”

Annie Wu, JV Girls Basketball Coach

“I miss going to games and having practices where we would bond as a team.”

Jackie Guo, JV Girls Volleyball and Flag Football Coach
