A heart for San Francisco

By Alyssa Yuen, Staff Writer

Having grown-up with a family that liked to move around a lot, World History teacher Mr. Major has always had a heart for being in San Francisco.

Mr. Major’s journey first started when his family first moved to San Francisco when he was 5 years old, but with a family that was constantly on the move, he was only in San Francisco for a short time before he had to move away again. However ten years later when Mr. Major was 15, his family returned to San Francisco, setting down some roots with his grandmother working at Ghirardelli Square, and his family living by Moscone Center.

After finishing at San Francisco State, Mr. Major decided to become a teacher. and for the last 11 years worked at Visitacion Valley Middle School before coming to Galileo.

One of the things Mr. Major loves about San Francisco is the ability to cycle around the city, as it is one of his main hobbies, even taking up motorcycle riding the past five years.

“Bicycles are my mode for transportation. I mean, I now live down by the baseball stadium, so it’s just the fastest. I have five bicycles, and three motorcycles. I use an electric bicycle to get here. So that’s how I usually get around. But if I have to go out of the city or something I use a motorcycle since I don’t have a car.”
